Homeless
or Just Nameless!
What
is Nasinzia?
Falling asleep. As I go to sleep, you are all I
am thinking of. People have interpreted the song
differently with some taking it as ‘you hypnotize
me’.
Speaking hypnosis,
were you high on something when you wrote the words?
I was high on music. Not substances!
We all know you didn’t
write it for your wife Wahu. So who did you write
it for?
What? Why do you say that? You want to cause me
problems? Anyways, normally I write what I and other
people can relate to. Thinking about that someone
you care for and appreciating them mentally, physically
and spiritually.
She’s been pretty
quiet lately. What is Wahu up to?
She’s trying to work on her stuff. Problem
with getting out so much is it hinders your creativity.
And now she has to take care of our 3 month old
baby. (congratulations! We didn’t know y’all
had a baby!) She has stopped doing performances
but look out! She has a project set for release
early next year.
Would you then take
turn baby sitting as a stay at home father as she
promotes her new project?
Ati stay at home father? (Laughs!)
You won a PAM award
and were nominated for an MTV Euro award. Did you
expect these accolades?
Unfortunately I did not win the MTV award but I
went and met many interesting people and learnt
a lot. The competition at MTV was stiffer than PAM
Awards considering I had to compete with people
from Nigeria, a nation of over 120 million people
and South Africans. Considering the selections were
by voting, and the internet, it’s very hard
for an artist from a not so developed country to
compete favorably.
You seem to have spent
a lot of time in Uganda this year, are you Homeless
as well as nameless?
I just did a tour with a telecom company that went
through colleges for 6 weeks. I also performed at
Bebe Kool’s album launch. On the whole, it
was just 8 weeks total but it was good for pushing
my name and music in Uganda.
What do you like best
in Uganda, apart from the girls of course!
Apart from the beautiful figured women, you mean?
Ugandans are very welcoming people. I had a chance
to go out of town to places like Mbarara, Mbale,
Nkumba and Nkozi and the reception was very nice.
I also like the Ugandan accent. Had started to speak
like that actually. I also noticed Ugandans love
to dress up and look good.
People who know you
from school say you were very brilliant in your
architecture class. Why did you stop practicing?
I did not really quit. It’s just that my music
is more public than my architectural work but I
still do practice. Drawing plans and all that.
Would you rather be
recognized as a world acclaimed architect or world
acclaimed musician?
I would like to be recognized as a world acclaimed
artist. I like to create. I don’t like to
be locked up in one place or in one field. Architecture
like Music requires a lot of creativity.
What is the biggest
erection you’ve had?
Sorry?
What is the biggest
erection you’ve had.
(Silence) I beg your pardon. I don’t think
I heard right. Biggest what?
You heard right. Erection.
E-R-E-C-T-I-O-N.
Laughs out loud. Why would you ask such a thing?
Why do you want to know?
Well, you are an architect
and we thought you must have some structure that
you erected out of wood, steel and cement that you
are proud of. You know, like the KICC, our Crested
Towers or even Workers house.
The interview
has to stop at this moment because Nameless is laughing
hysterically. The last thing he says ‘you
are useless’! Are we really??
