Ugandan Afro-Soul artist Maurice Kiirya has been listed in the top 10 African musicians list for the Radio France International Prix Découvertes awards for his song Misubaawa! If he wins, he will get a fully paid for band tour of France and prize money of over 100,000 euros. The artists for the 2010 version of the awards were picked from Africa, the Indian Ocean and the West Indies and the winner will be announced on 16 September. Other nominees include:

MUSEVENI PAYS FOR BEBE COOL TREATMENT

President Yoweri Museveni has paid all expenses for singer Bebe Cool’s further treatment in the US, including medical fees, travel expenses and upkeep for his wife Zuena Kirema and their two children, the deputy spokesman for State House, Linda Nabusayi, has confirmed.

Bebe Cool and his two aides were shot by a special Police constable in January this year in the lot behind Oasis Shopping Mall on Yusuf Lule rd.

VISION VOICE PRESENTER DIES FROM BOMB INJURIES

As the death toll from Sunday’s twin bombings continues to rise, it was confirmed today that Vision Voice presenter Steven Tinka is among the dead having succumbed to injuries received at the Kyadondo rugby club where he was watching the Spain-Netherlands world cup final.

Steven who was watching the game just next to fellow Vision Voice staffer Bills Tibaingana received head trauma from the explosive’s shrapnel and was taken to hospital in critical condition.

ANDREW BENON KIBUUKA IN ACID ATTACK

The President of the Uganda Performing Artists and Musicians association and Bakayimbira Dramactors director, actor Andrew Benon Kibuuka was involved in a suspected acid attack today.

It is said that a man riding on a bodaboda motorcycle pulled up close to Kibuuka’s vehicle as he drove from Pride theatre on Namirembe road and poured the substance on him.

Singer Bebe Cool, just recovered from a car accident and still recovering from gunshots earlier this year, is in the news again this time for spending Saturday night in the custody of Danish police.

Trouble started when the artiste who had just successfully performed in Sweden on his ‘European tour’ started complaining about the quality of sound two songs into his Denmark performance in Copenhagen, then said some unbecoming things about Ugandans living abroad, calling them refugees in exile, which got him into an altercation with a fan.
