When MTN brought UB 40 in February 2008, there was a lot of debate as to which act could beat the mammoth crowd that attended the shows. Lionel Ritchie? Celine Dionne? Kenny Rogers? Madonna? Probably Michael Jackson. Then he chose to die.

It was his third visit to the country but clearly, Benny D will not count his most recent trip to Kampala among his best.
For starters, he openly complained on stage, not just once, that one of the digital turntables at the Blu3 album launch where he had come to perform was faulty, hence his lackluster performance.

Uganda’s hopes for a Big Brother Africa victory came to nought after the eviction of Hannington Kuteesa from the South Africa based reality show in Sunday night’s eviction special.
The ‘God among men’ was evicted together with Ethiopia’s Jacob in a double eviction following a twist where big brother paired the contestants in teams of two putting a contestant up for eviction if his teammate were to be evicted from the house.

If the information that we have is to go by, then WBS TV’s Showtime magazine is to suffer another blow with the departure of long serving host, Barbara Yata.
The bubbly Yata, who joined after the departure of Karitas Karisimbi who in turn had replaced Tilly Muwonge, the pioneer host and producer, is said to be headed to relatively new advertising firm Fireworks, where she is to be in the Public Relations department.

The Serena Hotel group has added to its portifolio in Uganda with the acquisition of the Ranch on the lake hotel, just off the Entebbe road at Kigo.
The resort, renamed Lake Victoria Serena Resort is undergoing major refurbishment to get it to the Serena group standards but opened doors for business on the 1st of October even as final touches were being applied, pending official launching. The resort overlooking the Lake Victoria boasts 124 rooms and 2 presidential suites and is to get an 18 hole golf course. It will be launched officially later this year

Afro soul/RnB singer Maurice Kiirya has seems to be getting deeper into the movie industry. The singer turned actor recently landed the lead role for a movie by The Ghetto Film School in New York. The movie, titled ‘LIVE JOSEPH’, is about a man called Joseph who believes he is going to die in 24 hours and the decisions he makes before his time comes to an end. The movie was shot in Uganda and edited in New York.

Uganda walked out of the Zain sponsored MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) held at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani indoor arena in Nairobi on Saturday night empty handed after Blu3, South Africa based XOD and Richard Paul Kaweesa lost to tight South African and Nigerian competition. Even Bobi Wine whose video with Wahu was nominated for Best video did not pick up a plaque.

Maria Namiiro beat tight challenge from nine girls to emerge Miss Uganda for Miss World 2009.
The heavily accented Londoner, will represent Uganda at the Miss World finals in South Africa this December.
The beauty pageants enthusiast is also Miss Uganda UK and has participated in Miss East Africa UK, the 5th Face of the Universe contest in Ghana and Miss Miss Intercontinental 2008 where she won the Miss Congeniality title.

Singer Jose Chameleone is flying to the Netherlands for concerts September 26th and 27th at a cafe in Amsterdam inspite of threats from a promoter there only identified as Steve.
The ever confrontational singer defiantly states that Steve had better be serious about his threats because he, Jose, is counting down the days to his flight on friday.

Capital FM is in preparations for a concert in memory of former Late date host DJ Ronnie who passed away on Friday afternoon after a very short illness.
Joel Isabirye, the station’s Programmes Director says the concert, tentatively set for mid next month shall be graced by top local artists many of whom have confirmed that they will perform free of charge.
