I HAVE BEEF WITH UGANDAN MPs.

By Nadia

When you choose them to power, you have in mind that all your constituency's problems will be brought to parliament and so expect a solution.  And so you hope that... no, trust that they will represent you well and make you heard…..but alas…..

It has been a while, the last time we talked, I Had Beef With Chogm and everything that came and went with it…Now I have beef with MPs. Ugandan Members of Parliament that is, not my Monthly Periods…. At least those I have learnt to live with. Anyway, I can not begin to list the MPs' names because you must know them, you have one or two in your constituency.

In the world of MPs, there is no one righteous, no not one.  They all are pretty much the same greedy, selfish characters.  Last year, the hot topic of discussion in Parliament was that of each member getting at least 60million Uganda shillings for new vehicles, the irony was that the Parliament parking was always lined up with landcruisers and latest models of cars.  While other countries’ MPs discuss corruption, hunger, poverty, incompetence, unemployment, global warming, the Ugandan MPs were busy debating about getting new cars….bargaining for material gain and comfort forgetting the poor who put them in power.

Notice how these M’s crave for cheap publicity for the need of their cars…one shamelessly got on radio to cry for the money to fund their new machines.  She said, “Every time I go to Bugiri with my small car, do you know what the people there ask me? They say, ‘where is the 60million car because we want you to come here as an MP.’  Hmmm leaving up to her status, MP.

I guess being an MP is supposed to be the flashiest job, whereby they don’t sweat their butts but rather warm the parliamentary pews  to either have a siesta or shout about arguments like primary school kids ….yet most of the time these arguments have no value for the country. I know this because I have watched many a parliament session on TV.

Still on crying for money for all the wrong reasons, hospitals lack medicine, not enough salaries for government school teachers, rising crime rate, general poverty, the police and SPC living in squalid conditions but these supposedly voices of the people don’t seem to notice that, they close their eyes and see what they want to see, and that is their own needs. They don’t remember the promises they made to the voter because they only want to remember what is important to them and that is their greed.

Anyway, I have beef with politics where only the liars and the greedy survive.
