A gunman opened fire at Club Silk just next to New Vision/Bukedde on
Sunday morning but luckily no one was injured or killed.
Businessman Joseph Kananura who at one time managed the now closed Viper
Room nightclub at Hotel Equatoria had reportedly been thrown out of the club
for being drunk and disorderly and when he tried to get back in at about 8am,
the club bouncers stopped him. He then walked to his car, a maroon Land Rover Discovery,
took out a gun and fired.
Police Patrol is said to have responded almost immediately and when Kananura
tried to drive off, police cut him off and put him at gunpoint upon which he
exited the vehicle with his hands up pleading that he is a gentleman and should
not be roughed up.
He was then put on the back of a police patrol pickup and whisked away to
the nearby Jinja road police station.
According to the Bukedde newspaper website, Kananura was too drunk to help
police with investigations into the cause of the shooting but police recovered
a pistol number 94930 which had been hidden in his car with 10 rounds of
ammunition and confirmed that three shots had been fired from the gun. The case
is on file number SD17/17/01/2010.
